Your Most Asked Beauty Questions

1. What are the best skincare products?

According to Google, the year’s most searched beauty questions were “what is the best skin-care line?” and “what are the best skin-care products?”

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have one product that would work for everyone with maximum efficacy? We think so too. Unfortunately, considering that every skin is different (regarding skin type and skin issues) it isn’t possible.

It’s not possible for a product to be the best one: it can only be the best one for you. If you’re looking for some ideas, check out our “best of skincare” selections, where we offer multiple product options for different skin types and concerns.

2. How to build a skincare routine?

Lucky you, we have written an entire post on how to build a skincare routine. Truth be told, this is more than just one of the most searched beauty questions. It is the basis of an effective skincare routine that works for you and your skin. Because of this, ask yourself these questions before jumping head-first into a new skincare routine:

  • How much am I willing to spend?
  • What type of routine suits my life?
  • What am I trying to achieve with this routine?

When you have considered that, you have set your primary goals, knowing how many products you could easily fit in your daily life and how much you want to spend. Then, search for some solutions for your issues. If you need some help, don’t hesitate to drop us a message–we’re always available to answer your questions!

3. What order to do skincare?

There is no established order and it varies regarding the number of products you use. You don’t have to use all of them, of course. However, here is a suggestion of the usual order for products in the morning and evening.

AM

  • cleanser
  • toner
  • essence
  • eye serum
  • eye cream
  • face serum
  • moisturizer
  • sunscreen
  • & finally, makeup

PM

  • first cleanser (a balm or oil, if you have sunscreen or makeup on)
  • second cleanser
  • toner
  • essence
  • eye serum
  • eye cream
  • actives (retinol, acids, etc)
  • face serum
  • moisturizer
  • oil

4. What does toner do for your face?

A toner is a liquid skincare product you use after cleansing your skin. The job of the toner depends on the formula. It can be a liquid exfoliant, an extra hydrating step, or even a mattifying lotion. When it comes to toners, formula is king, and therefore it all comes down to what’s inside the bottle.

5. What is combination skin?

Combination skin is a complexion that combines two skin types. The most common is to have oily skin on the “T zone” (forehead, nose and chin) and normal to dry skin on the cheeks. However, it doesn’t always have to be the case.

6. How to get rid of acne

Acne is an inflammatory disease of the skin, so “getting rid” of acne might not be simple or even doable, unfortunately. If you’re suffering from cystic acne, we advise you to check it out with your doctor. If, on the other hand, you are dealing with pimples and blackheads, you can try and clear it with skincare products.

7. What does vitamin C do for your skin?

Vitamin C is a wonderful ingredient that boosts radiance, prevents premature aging, and helps to reduce dark spots. This molecule is one of the best-known antioxidants for the skin, and its action is boosted when combined with other antioxidants. Look for formulas with vitamin E, ferulic acid, or resveratrol, or feel free to explore our favorite vitamin C serums.

8. What does hyaluronic acid do?

The action of hyaluronic acid depends on the size of the molecule. If we’re talking about the big molecules, they help to hydrate the skin. This is due to the ability of hyaluronic acid to capture water from the environment. However, if you live in extremely dry areas, please keep in mind that you need to use a mist before applying your hyaluronic acid serum, to ensure it binds to that water and doesn’t remove water from your skin. On the other hand, if we’re talking about low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, it has a slight filler-like effect, thus filling wrinkles.

If you’re ready to add hyaluronic acid to your skincare routine, but don’t really know where to begin, we’ve put together a list of our favorite hyaluronic acid serums.

9. What is AHA in skincare?

AHA means “alpha hydroxy acids”. They are natural acids usually derived from fruits that exfoliate the skin. They work by dissolving the substances that bind the surface cells together, allowing them to gently detach from the skin. Thus, this means that the texture of the skin will be more even. Moreover, AHA boost cellular turnover, so they are also anti-aging. You may have heard of some popular AHA like glycolic acid, mandelic acid, lactic acid, and citric acid.
